Falling Walls Lab Adlershof

Beim Falling Walls Lab Adlershof, das als norddeutscher Vorentscheid gemeinsam von der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) und der IGAFA organisiert wurde, stellten

14 Bewerber/-innen am Freitag, 27. September 2019 öffentlich ihre zukunftsweisenden Gedanken, Forschungsprojekte, Ideen und Initiativen mit gesellschaftlicher Relevanz in drei Minuten vor.

Ein Falling Walls Lab dient als Plattform für Innovation und Austausch zwischen wissenschaftlichem Nachwuchs und Young Professionals aus aller Welt. Unter dem Motto „Great minds, 3 minutes, 1 day“ können Forschungsprojekte, Ideen und Initiativen mit gesellschaftlicher Relevanz aus allen Disziplinen innerhalb von 3 Minuten in Form eines Wettbewerbes präsentiert werden.
Die Sieger/-innen der weltweit mehr als 60 Vorentscheide kämpfen am 8. November beim Finale in Berlin darum, als „Falling Walls Young Innovator of the Year” ausgezeichnet zu werden. Die drei besten Ideen werden prämiert: Die Gewinner erhalten einen Geldpreis und dürfen ihren Vortrag tags darauf noch einmal auf der Falling Walls Conference vor großem Publikum halten.

Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Wissenschaftler/-innen, deren höchster Abschluss

• die höchstens 5 Jahre zurückliegende Promotion,
• der höchstens 7 Jahre zurückliegende Master bzw. das Diplom-Abschluss
  oder
• der höchstens 10 Jahre zurückliegende Bachelor-Abschluss ist.

Die Teilnahme am Falling Walls Lab ist eine „once in a liftetime“-Gelegenheit: Die Statuten dieses Wettbewerbs erlauben jeder Kandidatin bzw. jedem Kandidaten nur eine einzige Teilnahme.

Darüber hinaus wird der Sieger/die Siegerin ebenfalls die Möglichkeit haben, sich beim Adlershofer Forschungsforum (AFF) am 11. November mit einem Kurzvortrag zu präsentieren. Das AFF ist eine ganztägige Konferenz, die als Plattform für den standortbezogenen wissenschaftlichen Austausch in Adlershof dient und Highlights der Forschung vor Ort präsentiert.

Great minds, 3 minutes, 1 day – Falling Walls Labs take place globally throughout the year. The Lab is a platform for excellent academics, entrepreneurs and professionals from all disciplines who get the opportunity to present their research work, business model, innovative project or idea with peers and a distinguished jury from academia and business. Each participant has 3-minute time on stage.
The Falling Walls Lab Adlershof is hosted by Joint Initiative of Non-University Research Institutes Adlershof (IGAFA) and Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) and took place on September 27, 2019.

Who can apply?

• Outstanding scholars, researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs, young professionals, and innovators.
• All disciplines are welcome.

Criteria/Eligibility

• If an applicant has a Bachelor’s degree, the degree should not date back more than 10 years.
• If an applicant has a Master’s degree, the degree should not date back more than 7 years.
• If an applicant has a PhD, the degree should not date back more than 5 years.
• Postdocs and students currently enrolled in university are also eligible to apply.

The winner of each international Falling Walls Lab qualifies for the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin, which is held every year on November 8 and is closely connected to the annual and internationally renowned Falling Walls Conference, taking place on November 9, 2019.

Furthermore the winner of the Falling Walls Lab Adlershof is also kindly invited to talk at the Adlershofer Forschungsforum (Adlershof Research Forum), which is an annual one-day conference taking place in Adlershof on November 11, 2019. It is a platform for knowledge exchange and communication between scientists working in Adlershof.
