Focus of the Process Analytical Technology division is the development and application of process analytical technologies (PAT), in particular online analytical methods. Process analytical technology is growing ever more important, for instance in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and in food production, and will strongly influence the markets.

The motivation to apply process analytical technologies lies in precisely achieving the desired product quality, making optimum use of equipment, raw materials and energy as well as establishing an optimum design that is borne of an understanding of the process (“quality by design”).
